Karen Eddlemon participates in American Tort Reform Association panel discussion

Karen Eddlemon of our firm recently had the honor of participating in a panel discussion at the American Tort Reform Association (ATRA) meeting to discuss the outcomes of Louisiana's recent regular legislative session and several legal reform victories.   Karen is heavily involved legal reform efforts that improve the quality of justice and transparency for all participants in the judicial system.

One of the major achievements was the successful passage of legislation aimed at reducing homeowner, auto, and business liability insurance premiums. This legislation included measures to revoke the auto direct action statute, which will help to curb frivolous lawsuits and lower insurance costs. Additionally, reforms were passed to allow discovery on issues of third-party litigation funding, which will help to expose and deter bad-faith litigation tactics.

In addition to Karen’s participation with the ATRA panel, she was also honored to be invited to a legal reform summit at the Travelers' Institute in Hartford, CT. This summit brought together legal experts, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss emerging legal challenges and innovative solutions. She was able to share her insights on the Louisiana legislative session and participate in productive discussions about the future of legal reform.
